With all the new attention car accidents, motorcycle accidents, and other types of accidents receive, many people forget that simply working on construction sites can put people in harm’s way. On July 6, 2009, two men suffered serious injuries after a concrete form collapsed and buried them.

The men were working on an expansion of a Tennessee sewage treatment plant when the construction accident occurred. According to witnesses, the men were pouring a wall that was nearly 30 feet high when the form of the wall collapsed. The cement contents of the form spilled and buried the victims.

Co-workers who saw the accident happen pulled both of the victims from the cement as soon as possible using rappelling equipment and baskets. One man was freed almost immediately while the other was buried for about ten minutes. Both of the men suffered critical injuries and were airlifted to a local hospital.

One of the two men died from the injuries he suffered and the other remains in critical condition.
