Wisconsin Traffic Deaths Down

Not only are traffic fatalities down in Wisconsin, they’re at their lowest level since World War II. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Bureau of Transportation Safety reported an 11 percent drop this year compared to the same time frame for last year. As of April 2009, 135 people have been killed in traffic accidents, compared to 151 in April 2008. Forty-two people were killed in the month of April; though this may seem like a lot, it is the fourth safest April in over 60 years.

However, every silver lining has a touch of grey, as they say. Motorcycle accident deaths are on the rise. Three motorcycle deaths were reported as of April 2008, but there have been ten as of this April. There are several factors that could be the reason for this: gas prices are still high in many areas so more people are riding motorcycles, motorcyclists refusal to wear helmets, and warmer weather bringing out more inexperienced riders. Because May is Motorcycle Awareness Month in Wisconsin, as it is in most parts of the country, the Bureau of Transportation Safety is reminding motorcyclists about safety.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a motorcycle accident, please contact an experienced personal injury lawyer in your area.
