The Accident Lawyers Network BlogAccident Lawyers NetworkWednesday, February 18, 2009Tractor-Trailer Collision Kills DriverA tractor-trailer crossed the median on I-77 and plowed into another tractor-trailer in Hillsville, Virginia yesterday. The driver who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver who lost control of his rig was taken to the hospital. Authorities are still investigating, but witnesses say they say the tractor-trailer swerving just before the accident. There are many factors that may have been to blame for the driver losing control of his tractor-trailer. The accident occurred just before noon in an area near the Blue Ridge Mountains. This area has winding roads through the mountains. The weather has also been cold and wet, causing ice to build up. So, weather, location, and time of day could all be factors, just as they are in every accident. However, the size of tractor-trailers can make them extremely dangerous to be around when they lose control. They weigh many more times than passenger vehicles, and are much larger, which takes them longer to come to a stop. Damage to other vehicles when they are involved in accidents with a tractor-trailer can be devastating.
